about
New York-based multi-instrumentalist and composer Andrew Paul, former leader of cult favorite indie-rock group Jesus On The Mainline, releases his second solo single on June 3 via Ropeadope Records. An elegant, intricate track written, performed, recorded, and produced by the artist in his own bedroom, “Evergreen” is part intimate lovesong, part ode to missed chances: Paul wrote the lyrics when the Covid-19 pandemic halted plans for his wedding. Unique, layered vocals are balanced by delicate strings, trembling acoustic and electric guitar, and chord organ, accented with distorted violin samples, subtle shaker rhythms, and snare. Atmospheric and intimate, “Evergreen'' is haunted by a feeling of anticipation: The song seems to vibrate with both hope and a sense of loss at the same time.

pared-down tracks is driven by melodies that highlight his ability to build emotionally stirring, distinct music with little beyond his voice and his guitar. Classic yet raw, the style falls somewhere between heartland soul, indie rock, and good, old-fashioned rock-and-roll....more
